Report prepared by Shawn Bergman and Taras Dahl, students in Bit’s Fish, Wildlife and Recreation Program.
Brazil’s fisheries have many of the same problems we have here in Canada. One of the issues is the decline in South American migratory fish stocks. Much like North Americas salmon, the reasons for the decline in South American migratory fish stocks are complex. They include over fishing, pollution, loss of habitat, deforestation and the construction of dams which block migration routes.
